Dionisis Cavouras

Dionisis Cavouras was born in Kalamata, Greece, in 1951. He received his B.Sc. (’74) in Electronic Engineering, and the M.Sc. (’76) and Ph.D. (’81) in Systems Engineering from the City University, London, England.
He was a research assistant at the Department. of Nuclear Medicine, Guy’s Hospital, London, England between 1976-1981, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Department. of Computed Tomography, Hellenic Air-force Hospital, Athens, Greece, between 1994-1991 and since then he is a professor of medical imaging processing at the Department. of Medical Instrumentation Technology, TEI-Athens, and director of the laboratory of Medical Image and Signal Processing. He is also an adjunct lecturer on medical image processing at the Department. of Informatics, University of Athens, Greece, and the Department. of Medical Physics, University of Patras, Greece.
His research interests include medical image processing, image analysis, pattern recognition, medical statistics, and medical physics. He has published numerous technical and medical papers as well as conference proceedings.

Pantelis Asvestas

Pantelis Asvestas was born in 1973. He got his Diploma in Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 1996 and the title of Doctor in Engineering from the same Department in 2001, on medical image processing. From 2003 till today he has been working as an electrical engineer, participating in R&D projects. From 2003 till 2006, he also worked as technical consultant in Hygeia Hospital. On May 2008, he has been appointed in the Department of Biomedical Technology Engineering. His research interests cover the following fields:

- Classification of biosignals and medical images using artificial intelligence.
– Image processing.
– Registration and fusion of medical data.
– 3D visualization of medical data.
– Biometrics.
– Real time video processing.
– Fractal analysis of images.

He has 35 papers in international scientific journals and 62 scientific publications in book chapters, proceedings of international or national congresses and national scientific magazines.

Dimitrios Glotsos

Dimitris Glotsos received his B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece, in 2000, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in medical physics from the University of Patras, Greece, in 2002 and 2006, respectively.
His research interests include pattern recognition, medical image processing and analysis, bioinformatics and microscopy. His published work includes 33 publications in peer reviewed international scientific journals, 63 publications in international scientific conferences with more than 140 not-self citations. He has participated in several national and international funded research projects, such as ‘HERAKLEITOS’ and ‘ARCHIMEDES’. Currently, he holds the position of Lecturer (Professor of Applications) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece.

CV Glotsos Dimitrios


Ioannis Kalatzis

Ioannis Kalatzis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1965. He completed his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Athens in 1987 and his Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 2000.
During his Ph.D. thesis he was involved in tomographic image processing in the Nuclear Medicine department of the Hippokrateio General Hospital of Athens, as well in research projects concerning image processing and pattern recognition applications in medicine.
He holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Technology Engineering (former Medical Instruments Technology) of the Technological Educational Institution of Athens on the subject of Image and Signal Processing Computer Programming.
Dr. Kalatzis has 47 publications in scientific journals with impact factor and 90 publications in international and national conferences, with over 300 citations (h=11).
Dr. Kalatzis’s research interests include medical image and signal processing and analysis, with focus in the field of pattern recognition, in collaboration with the Medical Image and Signal Processing Laboratory and in the Biosignal Acquisition Laboratory, both in the Biomedical Engineering department., TEI of Athens.

Spiros Kostopoulos

Dr. Spiros Kostopoulos received his B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece, in 2000, and the M.Sc. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Surrey, UK, in 2004. He received his Ph.D. in Medical Physics in 2009 from the University of Patras, Greece.
His main research activities lie in the field of Medical Image Processing, Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition, and Medical Informatics. He has 18 publications in scientific journals and 37 publications in international and national conferences. His scientific publications, starting from 2005, have received 41 not-self citations so far.
Since 2009, he is an Adjunct Laboratory Instructor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece. Today, he works as a Post Doctoral researcher in bioinformatics, awarded a grant from the National State Scholarship Foundation of Greece.
